You were just watching the wrong genre for u back then. Domekano is unique - among animes atleast.
- The mc dates more than 1 girl along the story (of course, not at the same time in this case)
- You don't have to wait hundreds of chapters for the start of a romantic relationship. There is meaning to the story even after the beginning of a romantic relationship. There are also break ups and periods in the story where the mc is single. It starts when the mc is at highschool and goes all the way until his life as an adult. And course - along the course of the story there is a lot of drama - it has drama as genre after all.

Domestic gf was also a lot more explicit with darker themes as I remember it, not a stretch to say they have entirely different target audiences (beyond genre, I'd say the gender and age breakdown differs as well)

I just feel cringe remembering domestic girlfriend it's just so cringe and a little weird

sasuga-sensei has a unique way to use "trash" elements to hook you in o her story and then goes on to create a masterpiece(domekano lost it at the end cause the editor wanted to make her an ending that pleases everyone),her previous work ge:good ending is one of the best drama/romance series ever(along with nozoki ana) and domekano is actually perfect excluding the ending((which wasnt bad but it kinda droped the ball)
btw im talking manga here,the anime only adapted(rushed)the "hook you"part of the begining of the story
